Abstract

Faridabad city is the biggest urban agglomeration of the Haryana State consisting of the old municipal town of Faridabad, Ballabgarh, and the New Industrial Town (NIT). The city has been divided into 35 wards. An attempt has been madeto assess the cumulative impact of various criteria which have been selected in order to evaluate the status of vulnerability to solid waste of different urban wards in spatial perspective. A total of eight criteria were selected and considered for ward wise vulnerability assessment.Composite Z-score indexis obtained to assess thelevel of vulnerability. There is a significant spatial variation in the level of vulnerability in Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF). Old part of the city and industrial areas and low lying areas along river Yamuna in the eastern most part are high to very high vulnerable. Contrarily, very low vulnerability areas are either hilly areas in the north westof the city or occupied by high income group population along the national highway- 2 where solid waste management practices are better.
